Pharos Excimer Laser
How does it work?
The Excimer Laser delivers a concentrated, painless, beam of ultraviolet light directly to psoriatic plaques. The laser precisely delivers high dose treatment to psoriatic plaques only, sparing healthy skin from exposure while providing rapid clearing and long remission.
Who is a candidate for Excimer Laser treatment?
The laser is ideal for anyone who has mild to moderate psoriasis. The laser's size and precision makes conventionally hard to treat areas like knees, elbows and the scalp, easy to treat. The targeted high-dose therapy is perfect for stubborn plaques including plaques that have resisted other treatments.
Who is a candidate for Excimer Laser treatment?
- Laser does not require daily maintenance
- Long remissions, usually 4 months or more
- Treatments are painless and only take a few minutes
- Effective clearing in 10 or fewer treatments vs. 30 with NB UVB
- Proven on stubborn recalcitrant plaques
Is it safe?
Excimer laser treatment is very safe. Since the treatment is targeted, exposure to healthy skin is limited. Therefore the risk of premature skin aging, thinning of the skin, easy bruising, or stretch marks is much lower compared to booth therapy or steroids.
What can you expect during treatment?
Treatment will take place in the doctor's office. First, your doctor will determine the best dosage level for you. Then, the doctor will place the handpiece directly on the plaques and apply the laser therapy. You will hear a gentle hum and see a blue colored light from the handpiece tip. Treatment only lasts a few minutes and causes a gentle warming sensation only.
